General
MQF Level 1
Level: MQF Level 1/ ECVT 4
This programme provides participants with knowledge, skills and solid training in the theories and practices of occupational health and safety.
Entry Requirements: Basic level of English, Basic knowledge of computer, Basic Numerical skills, Ability to use grammar and language appropriately and communicate effectively in writing.
Overall Course Objectives:
- This program provides participants with knowledge, skills and solid training in the theories and practices of occupational health and safety.
- Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- assess the health hazards for each type of job and correctly use the techniques of risk prevention
- know adequately the responsibilities of the people involved in the system of risk prevention in the workplace
- communicate appropriately with employer or with employees and their representatives, and with other technical and management agents in the company with responsibilities in the area of workplace health and safety conditions
Learning Outcomes:
- Discern health and safety programs and implement procedures using basic risk assessment principles and processes.
- Acquire knowledge of the methods of evaluation of significant risks to health and safety in a workplace (for example: physical, ergonomic and chemical hazards; slips, trips and falls; signage, working at height, etc.).
- Learn organisational preventive measures relevant to most occupational hazards.
- Learn use and care for the various Personal Protective Equipment.

Level: MQF Level 1/ ECVET 4
This course handles the various hazards that personal protective equipment is designed to protect the worker from and outlines the various pieces of personal protective equipment.
Entry Requirements: Basic level of English, Basic knowledge of computer, Basic Numerical skills.
Overall Course Objective:
- The Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) course is designed to familiarize the participant with Maltese and international regulations affecting the use of personal protective equipment and provide participants with the skills needed to maintain and clean the equipment to protect themselves against hazards in the workplace.
- Upon completion of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) training, the participants will acquire the following competencies:
- Have a good knowledge of what type of PPE to wear for a particular type of risk.
- Proper PPE to be worn when work is being performed
- Limitations of the PPE
- The proper care, maintenance, useful life and disposal of the PPE
- Know the different types of regulations in the field of PPE
- Periodically reviewing, updating and evaluating the effectiveness of the PPE program.
- Performing a “hazard assessment” of the workplace to identify and control physical and health hazards.
- Know how complete an incident report form.
- Know which kind of technical or procedural actions can be taken to eliminate or reduce a specific type of risk.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand how carry on a risk assessment for any changes in conditions, equipment or operating procedures that could affect occupational hazards.

MQF Level 2
Level: MQF Level 2/ ECVET 4
This course provides participants with a solid foundation in particular working conditions and related hazards, with an emphasis on prevention and practical skills.
Entry Requirements: Basic level of English, Basic knowledge of computer, Basic Numerical skills.
Overall Course Objectives:
- The course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and awareness of specific hazards at workplace: heat and cold stress (temperature at which work becomes dangerous), lone working (a person who works alone) and safety risks for young worker (a person under eighteen years of age who works).
- This training course provides participants with the tools they need to prevent and treat heat and cold stress related injuries and emergency situations.
- The aim of the course is also to raise skills with regards to the issues surrounding the prevention of risks and personal safety of young workers and lone workers, through proactive and practical strategies.
Learning Outcomes:
- An understanding of the importance of personal safety for lone workers.
- Knowledge of the risks that a person may face as a lone worker and ways to reduce these risks.
- An understanding of how cooperate among workers to improve safety and health’ procedures in circumstances involving lone labours.
Level: MQF Level 2/ECVET 4
This course aims to provide the participant with the knowledge necessary to comply with environmental standards and management of waste, especially in a construction site; the competences and skills necessary to implement a waste management plan to meet legal requirements and essential safety procedures.
Entry Requirements: Basic level of English, Basic knowledge of computer, Basic Numerical skills.
Overall course objectives:
- This course aims to provide the participant with the knowledge necessary to comply with environmental standards and management of waste, especially in a construction site; the competences and skills necessary to implement a site waste management plan to meet the legal requirements and essential safety procedures.
- The course will provide an introduction to waste in general and the overarching principles of waste management applications in any setting.
Overall course objectives:
- This course aims to provide the participant with the knowledge necessary to comply with environmental standards and management of waste, especially in a construction site; the competences and skills necessary to implement a site waste management plan to meet the legal requirements and essential safety procedures.

- Be able to pursue a job in the presence of asbestos in compliance with all safety measures required by current regulations and good practices.
- Identify the hierarchy of responsibility with respect to who are the persons shouldering responsibility for correct waste disposal.
Level: MQF Level 2/ ECVET 4
This course is designed to raise awareness on fire hazards and train participants on how to act safely in the event of an emergency fire situation.
Entry Requirements: Basic level of English, Basic knowledge of computer, Basic Numerical skills.
Overall Course Objective:
This course is designed to raise awareness of fire hazards and train participants on how to act safely in the event of an emergency fire situation. This training course provides participants with the knowledge necessary to prevent fires in the workplace and also focus on the basic elements of fire prevention and protection. The participants will be able to use fire extinguishers properly and develop skills concerning emergency evacuation procedures.
Learning Outcomes:
- A sound understanding of the role, functions and responsibility of a fire marshal.
- Ability to identify which are the elements that need to be present for a fire to occurs, the three basic principles of fire extinction and the principles and practice of fire risk analysis.
- Ability to identify the key elements for effective fire risk management in the workplace.
- An understanding of the correct methods of fire prevention measures that can be taken to minimize fire hazards.
- Knowledge of the use of various types of fire equipment
- Knowledge of common types of evacuation procedures and the control of personnel.
- Knowledge of all categories of fire signage, according to the type of message they are intended to convey.
Level: MQF Level 2/ ECVT 4
This course provides participants with a solid foundation in first aid with an emphasis on prevention, practical skills, decision making and dealing with environmental conditions.
Entry Requirements: Basic level of English, Basic knowledge of computer, Basic Numerical skills.
Overall Course Objective:
The aim of the course is to enable participants to attain the knowledge and competences needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations. Participants should be able to demonstrate the practical administration of safe, prompt, effective first aid in emergency situations with an understanding of the role of the first aider.
Learning Outcomes:
- A sound understanding of the roles, functions and responsibilities of a first aider
- Theoretical and practical competences on first aid equipment, including personal protection and how to use it safely.
- The ability to carry out incident reporting and scene survey
- The ability to correctly identify methods to manage an unresponsive casualty
- Knowledge on how to administer First Aid for a range of conditions
- Knowledge of the various types of casualty lifting techniques
Level: MQF Level 2/ ECVT 4
Aimed at providing the learner with knowledge, skills and competences required to provide first aid for kids. Through this training programme, the participants will be able to know how to cope with an emergency involving a child and understand different procedures for treatment for children ages 0-8 years.
Entry Requirements: Basic level of English, Basic knowledge of computer, Basic Numerical skills.
Overall Course Objective:
This course is aimed at providing the learner with knowledge, skills and competences required to provide first aid for kids. Through this training programme, the participant will be able to:
- Know how to cope with an emergency involving a child
- Understand the different procedures for treatment for children aged 0-8

This course is designed to provide participants with the skills and confidence to meet the requirements of the guidelines and regulations, relating to the management of the safety of the workplace and the documentation required.
Entry Requirements: Basic level of English, Basic knowledge of computer, Basic Numerical skills.
Overall Course Objectives:
Employers are primarily responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. The aim of this course is to understand how to manage and conduct all work activities so as to ensure as reasonably as practicable the safety, health and welfare of people at work. In the meantime the employer will acquire competencies about the legal responsibilities of his role, in reference to all working activities and risks in the workplace.
Learning Outcomes:
- An understanding of the role, functions and responsibility of the employer.
- An understanding of what kind of legal responsibilities apply to the management of a work place.
- Identifying of key elements for effective risk management in the workplace.
- Understanding the correct method to manage prevention measures that can be taken to minimize risk in a workplace.
- Sound knowledge of the correct method to manage the procedures to be followed in case of emergency.
- The need for fire safety and implementation of measures to protect yourselves, employees and clients.

This course is designed to teach the key aspects of safe chemical storage and handling. Acquire competences to reduce the possible instances of chemical spills.
Entry Requirements: Basic level of English, Basic knowledge of computer, Basic Numerical skills.
Overall Course Objectives:
This course is designed to:
- Learn the key aspects of safe chemical storage and handling in the construction site for all employees who come into contact with chemicals that are classified as hazardous substances.
- Acquire competences to reduce the possible incidence of chemical spills.
- Acquire know-hows to protect workers in case of work with explosive atmospheres.
Learning Outcomes:
- Basic introductory module on chemicals

MQF Level 4
Level: MQF Level 4
This course is primarily aimed at promoting a positive and effective health and safety culture and will bring out the importance of establishing such a culture within a school / learning environment.
Entry Requirements: O’ Level standard of education. O’ level standard of English language. Knowledge in the use of computers and the internet. ECDL certified, Numerical Skills – Secondary certificate in Mathematics.
Overall Course Objectives:
This course provides participants with knowledge, skills and solid training in the theories and practices of health and safety implementation in school. It will prepare individuals to take on the role of Health and Safety Representative and / or provide participants who already occupy that role with the necessary tools to carry out their duties effectively. The role is intended to fulfill the duties as per OHSA act27 of 2000 and relevant legal notices.
Learning Outcomes:
The learner will be able to:
- Co-ordinate and co-operate with colleagues for the effective implementation of HS management in schools
- Present an explanation to his/her superiors on the measures which are being taken to eliminate / reduce risks likely to be found in a school.
- Communicate clearly and directly the safety guidelines within their school and transmit critical information quickly and efficiently
- Speak about the schools progress on health and safety matters during staff meetings
- Communicate the School HS policy / policies according to the need of the school to ensure that the contents of the policy are understood by all persons working or attending the school.
- Communicate effectively with a casualty, bystander/s, ambulance personnel and emergency services regardless of the type and severity of the injury at hand.
- Co-ordinate with other first aiders present during an emergency.
