MQF Level 1
Level: MQF Level 1/ ECVT 4
This training course touches on most aspects of health and safety in construction. It covers construction safety and health management, risk assessment, planning for safety , and the safe use of construction plant and equipment, electricity and other services.
Entry Requirements: Basic Level of English, Basic knowledge of computer use, Basic numerical skills, Minimum age of 18, knowledge of procedures on construction sites.
Overall Course Objectives:

This course handles the various hazards that personal protective equipment is designed to protect the worker from and outlines the various pieces of personal protective equipment.
Entry Requirements: Basic level of English, Basic knowledge of computer, Basic Numerical skills.
Overall Course Objective:
- The Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) course is designed to familiarize the participant with Maltese and international regulations affecting the use of personal protective equipment and provide participants with the skills needed to maintain and clean the equipment to protect themselves against hazards in the workplace.
- Upon completion of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) training, the participants will acquire the following competencies:
- Have a good knowledge of what type of PPE to wear for a particular type of risk.
- Proper PPE to be worn when work is being performed
- Limitations of the PPE
- The proper care, maintenance, useful life and disposal of the PPE
- Know the different types of regulations in the field of PPE
- Periodically reviewing, updating and evaluating the effectiveness of the PPE program.

MQF Level 2
Level: MQF Level 2/ ECVT 4
This course is intended for Individuals seeking to start a carrier in the building and construction sector operations which may include large, medium and small building and construction projects.
Entry Requirements:
Candidates who are in possession of a school leaving certificate or have an MQF Level 1 (introductory secondary education level) award or certificate in the building and construction sector. A basic proficiency numerical and literacy skills test may also be required.
Overall Course Objective:
This course is meant to provide the learner with occupational health and safety operating and working practices and will lead the learner to acquire the competence to be able to become an assistant excavation operative in the building and construction sector. The candidate shall be able to use the knowledge and skills to work effectively with superiors and colleagues using small portable powered tools.
Learning Outcomes:
The learner will be able to:
- Communicate with superiors and colleagues or site managers
- Communicate using simple glossary terms used in the building and construction.
- Communicate using basic Maltese or English
- Use appropriate nonverbal communication

Level: MQF Level 2/ECTS 4
This course is meant to provide the learner with occupational health and safety working practices and acquire the competence to be able to assist concreters in the building and construction sector and be able to develop further knowledge and skills to be able to assist in the reading of construction drawings and calculations and to be knowledgeable and skilled at a basic level where concrete works are involved.
Entry Requirements: Candidates are required to be 18 years of age, possess a school leaving certificate or a minimum of 3 years’ working experience in the building and construction sector as an assistant concreter, assisting or assisting skilled personnel in other general specializations.
Overall Course Objectives: This course is meant to provide the learner with occupational health and safety working practices and acquire the competence to be able to assist concreters in the building and construction sector and be able to develop further knowledge and skills to be able to assist in the reading of construction drawings and calculations and to be knowledgeable and skilled at a basic level where concrete works are involved.

The course is designed to provide scaffolders, beginners, hirers of scaffolding or self-employed scaffolders with the knowledge and awareness of hazards of scaffolding at construction site and how to improve workplace safety.
Entry Requirements: Basic Level of English, Basic knowledge of computer use, Basic numerical skills, Minimum age of 18, Basic knowledge and experience in scaffolding.
Overall Course Objectives:
- The course is designed to provide scaffolders, beginners, hirers of scaffolding or self-employed scaffolders with the knowledge and awareness of hazards of scaffolding at construction site and how to improve workplace safety.
- The course aim is to develop in participants an understanding of scaffold components, forms of construction of basic access scaffolds, to be aware of the general requirements to carry out the erection and dismantling of scaffold safely and to comply with current legislation.
- Participants will acquire skills to respect health and safety rules on site in accordance with the current legal provisions and legislation

- Acquire knowledge of basic scaffolding terminology (components and application) to be able to work safely in a construction site with scaffolds.

Compressed air used in the workplace can be very dangerous if the necessary precautions are not taken. This course provides knowledge and skills on all types of hazards relating to the use of compressed air machinery and on the safety procedures at workplace.
Entry Requirements: Basic Level of English, Basic knowledge of computer use, Basic numerical skills, Basic knowledge/experience in compressed air machinery.
Overall Course Objectives:
- Compressed air used in the workplace can be very dangerous if the necessary precautions are not taken. This course provides knowledge and skills on all types of hazards relating to the use of compressed air machinery and on the safety procedures at workplace.
- At the end of the course participants will acquire competences about safe use of compressed air machinery and prevention of accidental injury when working, through the knowledge of different procedures for using compressed air for any type of operation.
Learning Outcomes:
- Understand the use and applications of compressed air in the various industries

Level: MQF Level 2/ ECVT 4
Participants will acquire knowledge about safe diving practices to be adopted in operations in which persons are employed to work underwater. Participants will acquire carried out on, adjacent to or over water and underwater types of work in a marine environment, for land-based construction work competencies about safe marine and diving works and related supporting safe work practices conducted in connection with all related works.
Entry Requirements: Medical examination to ensure basic level of health, Basic knowledge of marine related works.
Overall Course Objective:
- Participants will acquire knowledge about safe diving practices to be adopted in operations in which persons are employed to work underwater.
- Participants will acquire competencies about safe marine and diving works and related supporting safe work practices conducted in connection with all types of work in a marine environment, for land-based construction work carried out on, adjacent to or over water and underwater.
- The course will have an introductory part will be to help non-divers understand the actual risks and limits related to diving and at the same time is a refresher to divers who may have had their training years ago.

Entry Requirements: Basic Level of English, Basic knowledge of computer use, Basic numerical skills, basic knowledge of work procedures on construction sites, minimum age of 18.
Overall Course Objectives:
- The objective this training course is to impress upon the participants the necessity for safety in all aspects of earth moving heavy equipment operations and procedures. The training program is based on the latest equipment specific safety standards and manufacturer’s requirements.
- On completion of the course, participants acquired the skills to:
- Select the correct equipment and demonstrate the proper use, for an earth moving or excavation project.
- Demonstrate how to excavate to meet construction and safety standards, based on the soil type.
- Safely operate various equipment utilized in the construction industry.
- The information provided in the classroom is reinforced with hands-on application sessions on the customer’s site using their earth moving equipment. Level: MQF Level 2/ ECVET 4
This course is specifically designed for all personnel who are required to operate a cherry picker as part of their work and aims to provide them with a thorough understanding with the relevant operational and safety requirements.
Entry Requirements: Basic Level of English, Basic knowledge of computer use, Basic numerical skills, Minimum age of 18.
Overall Course Objectives:
- This course is specifically designed for all personnel who are required to operate a cherry picker as part of their work and aims to provide them with a thorough understanding with the relevant operational and safety requirements.
- It teaches the basic skills needed to operate these machines safely allowing for minimum mistakes and provides techniques that help in avoiding potential hazards.
- On completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Know the capabilities of the machine, its purpose and limitations
- Know safety precautions necessary for the correct operation of the machine

Level: MQF Level 2/ECTS 4
Entry Requirement: Candidates must be 16years of age and in possession of a school leaving certificate or in a possession of a vocational introductory level MQF 1 in construction. Older candidates wanting to start a career within the construction and building industry may also apply. A proficiency numerical and literacy skills test may also be required.
Overall Course Objectives: This course is meant to provide the learner with sound knowledge of occupational health and safety working practices and acquire the competence to be able to assist to operate handheld power tools and equipment in the workplace within the building and construction sector. The candidate shall cover procedures and principles on how to assist in demolition and dismantling of existing structures manually (by hand) under supervision on construction sites.
Learning Outcomes:
The learner will be able to:

Level: MQF Level 2/ ECTS 3
This course is meant to provide the learner with occupational health and safety working practices; acquire knowledge to be able to assist in the identification of systems, equipment and components; develop knowledge and skills to be able to assist in reading of drawings and calculations with approved procedures and under supervision; and to be knowledgeable and have the skill of assisting in the laying of limestone and hollow concrete blocks to line.
Entry Requirements:
School leaving certificate, certificate of attendance or a minimum of 5 years work experience.
Overall Course Objectives:
This course is meant to provide the learner with occupational health and safety working practices; acquire knowledge to be able to assist in the identification of systems, equipment and components; develop knowledge and skills to be able to assist in reading of drawings and calculations with approved procedures and under supervision; and to be knowledgeable and have the skill of assisting in the laying of limestone and hollow concrete blocks to line.

Level: MQF Level 2/ ECTS 3
This course is meant to provide the learner with occupational health and safety work practices; handling of equipment and components; develop knowledge and skills to be able to assist the installer in operating machines and tools, housekeeping and other activities associated with the trade.
The course is ideal for individuals who is seeking apprenticeship and who work closely on aluminium installations and seeking to help in this trade during the process of works.
Entry requirements:

- This training course provides participants with the tools they need to prevent and treat heat and cold stress related injuries and emergency situations.
- The aim of the course is also to raise skills with regards to the issues surrounding the prevention of risks and personal safety of young workers and lone workers, through proactive and practical strategies.

Overall Course Objectives:
Employers are primarily responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. The aim of this course is to understand how to manage and conduct all work activities so as to ensure as reasonably as practicable the safety, health and welfare of people at work. In the meantime the employer will acquire competencies about the legal responsibilities of his role, in reference to all working activities and risks in the workplace.

This course is meant to provide the learner with the working practices and acquire the competence to be able to work and take responsibility for completion of tasks with all the recommended safety precautions in the building and construction sector. Learners will be able to develop further knowledge and skills to to be able to read drawings and carry out calculations.
Entry Requirements: Be of the legal age of 18 have at least six months experience as an assistant concreter and possess a Concreter award at MQF Level 2 or a similar relevant award at MQF level 2 in Building and Construction or a minimum of 3 years’ working experience in the building and construction sector as an assistant concreter, assisting superiors with a portfolio of evidence.
Overall Course Objectives:
This course is meant to provide the learner with occupational health and safety working practices and acquire the competence to be able to work, and take responsibility for completion of tasks with all the recommended safety precautions in the building and construction sector. Learners will be able to develop further knowledge and skills to be able to read drawings and carry out basic calculations. The course is also intended to provide a good foundation for the advanced level where concrete works is involved.

The course is ideal for individuals seeking to work in the Building and Construction sector either as part of a larger company with different skills specialisation or else in a small company where multiple skills within the same sector might be necessary.

Entry Requirements: Candidates must be 21years of age and are in possession of a relevant MQF Level 2 accredited award in demolition building and construction sector. Candidates must have a valid license DEM33 to operate both small and heavy mobile plant equipment for demolition building and construction. A proficiency numerical and literacy skills test may also be required.

This course is meant to provide the learner with occupational health and safety supervision of working practices and will lead the learner to acquire the competence to be able to operate portable powered and mobile plant equipment in the building and construction sector. The candidate shall be able to use further knowledge and skills to supervise effectively subordinates using small portable powered tools and mobile plant equipment on construction sites for excavation.

Overall Course Objectives
The overall objectives of the course are also to encourage employees to supervise, manage and use safe practices in the building and construction sector. It is also intended to make candidates aware of the skills, knowledge or competences these may already possess while filling training gaps the candidate might need to have a safer building and construction sector. This course is primarily aimed at promoting a positive and effective health and safety culture and will bring out the importance of establishing such a culture within a school / learning environment.
Entry Requirements: O’ Level standard of education. O’ level standard of English language. Knowledge in the use of computers and the internet. ECDL certified, Numerical Skills – Secondary certificate in Mathematics.
Overall Course Objectives:
This course provides participants with knowledge, skills and solid training in the theories and practices of health and safety implementation in school. It will prepare individuals to take on the role of Health and Safety Representative and / or provide participants who already occupy that role with the necessary tools to carry out their duties effectively. The role is intended to fulfill the duties as per OHSA act27 of 2000 and relevant legal notices.

The learner will be able to:
- Co-ordinate and co-operate with colleagues for the effective implementation of HS management in schools
- Present an explanation to his/her superiors on the measures which are being taken to eliminate / reduce risks likely to be found in a school.
